First Colonial Eye Center is a medical ophthalmology office that provides complete and excellent quality of care to our patients in the Tidewater, Virginia area. Our office offers general ophthalmology services, a full service optical gallery, cataract surgery, laser vision correction, Latisse™, Botox™ and Juvéderm™.
We are the only office in Hampton Roads that offers the newest form of technology in laser vision correction, the all surface, no flap Supralase®. Supralase was discovered and patented by our very own Dr. Douglas Rampona.
Dr. Rampona, a graduate of Princeton University, received his medical degree from Baylor University and did his ophthalmic residency at Tulane. Dr. Rampona is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and has been elected Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine.
The research Council of America has named him among America’s Top Ophthalmologists. Dr. Rampona has Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, Ocular Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Rampona
has been practicing ophthalmology since 1975. Now planted in the Hampton Roads region, he is one of the most experienced eye surgeons in this field. His experience in eye surgery encompasses cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and the various types of refractive surgery including Lasik, PRK, CK and his patented Supralase laser vision correction. In May of 2005, Dr. Rampona was awarded a patent for his ‘All Laser, No Flap’ SUPRALASE.
Having served in the military as a Naval Medical Officer from 1969-1971 and as Lt.Col. USAA as the chief medical readiness officer, he has served his country well. Each year Dr. Rampona donates his time and skill for medical missions and humanitarian around the world.
