1st Step: Consultation

To fully determine whether you are a good candidate for SUPRALASEor another type of refractive procedure, you should have a thorough consultation by an ophthalmologist. Your FREE consultation at First Colonial Eye Center includes the following data along with other general information to determine if you a candidate for laser vision correction:

  1. Corneal Topography. A surface map of the corneal that reveals details of the cornea's curvature. Topographical mapping of the cornea reveals regular and irregular astigmatism as well as certain conditions of the cornea like keratoconus or corneal scarring. The results of the topography are useful in determining your probable visual outcome from refractive surgery.
  2. Pachymetry.  A measurement of the thickness of your cornea, usually presented in microns (0.001 of a millimeter). Corneal thickness is very important determining factor in which refractive procedure is best for you.
  3. Stability of Refraction. This is necessary before any refractive surgery procedure. This may be determined by comparing your most recent glasses prescription with an older glasses prescription or by comparing your refraction done in our office with your current glasses. If your refractive error (glasses prescription) is still changing, it is better to wait until it is stable before having any refractive procedure.
  4. Tear Production. Moist eyes heal faster and have better vision. Inadequate tear production causes a "scratchy" discomfort and less than optimal visual results after your refractive procedure. If you have any signs of decreased tear production or actual dry eyes, we will discuss appropriate actions to help you acquire and maintain sufficient ocular lubrication prior to your surgical procedure.

At First Colonial Eye Center, laser vision correction consultations are ALWAYS FREE.

NearVision CK

Are you over 40 years of age?

Have you had great distance vision without glasses or contacts for most of your life?

Are you tired of your reading glasses?

NearVision CK can help you improve your eyesight to be able to see like ten years ago.  It's an exciting new advancement in vision correction of presbyopia because it uses radio waves instead of a laser to treat your vision problem.  Like Supralase there is no need to create a flap in your cornea, it's convenient, save, and fast.  CK uses the controlled release of radio waves to heat and shrink corneal tissue to correct the irregular shape of your cornea which causes the inability to focus on near things.

In the clinical study for NearVision CK, 9 out of 10 patients could see 20/20 or better in the distance, and could read newspaper sized print after the procedure without glasses.

If you are interested in getting rid of those reading glasses or want more information regarding CK, call us and schedule your free consultation today.
