3rd Step: The Procedure

First Colonial Eye Center uses the best technology available.  We have the newest VISX S4 Iris Registration Tracking Laser. Iris Registration minimizes the margin of error in aligning the cornea and presents a new level of confidence in the accurate placement of the correct treatment in your eye. Iris Registration is the first FDA-approved, fully automated, non-contact method of aligning the treatment to the center of your pupil by tracking the x, y, and z-axis intra-operative movement of your eye. Basically, the iris registration visually locks onto all points of your iris to ensure it follows any of your eye's movements during the procedure.

Dr. Rampona was extremely thorough in his investigation of lasers before deciding on the VISX S4 IR Tracking Laser. He believes that this is the best and safest laser available. It is the Laser trusted and used by the United States Navy on carrier pilots.

What will occur during the procedure?

  1. The laser will be aligned with your eye and the surgeon will talk you through each step of the procedure.  You will be asked to fixate your vision on the blinking light.
  2. The laser will start and you will hear a clicking sound, which is the sound of the laser running. Generally, within 30 to 60 seconds, we'll be done!
  3. You're ready to head home, with your driver at the wheel. It's best to rest and keep your eyes closed as much as possible for the first 12 hours, being careful not to rub or touch your eyes for 24 hours.
  4. The next day, you'll have a follow-up appointment, as well additional required postoperative visits to ensure that the healing process is going well.
